Interesting Facts About Bundaberg, Queensland

Located relatively near to the south eastern coast of Queensland in Australia is a city just on the Burnett River called Bundaberg. This city is widely known for having quite a large area dedicated to growing sugar cane as well as its exportation industry of the famous Bundaberg Rum. Bundaberg is known for having one of the best gateways for tourism with its resort islands, national parks located inland as well as the Great Barrier Reefs southern end. In June of 2015, the city was declared to have had a population of 70588 people.

Bundaberg got its name from that of a local chief who was amongst the early settlers, he was known as Alfred Dale Edwards, Bunda, where bunda means chief. And, the suffix berg is of German origins and means hill. However, the city is sometimes referred to as just Bundy. The city of Bundaberg has several heritage listings which include schools, war memorials, banks, churches, a number of bridges, and even a radio station.

Bundaberg’s economy is mostly based on their sugarcane exportation industry. These huge fields were cultivated and developed throughout its districts. They also perform other operations in the same field, this means that they refine and mill the sugar, and they do distribution and packaging throughout the city. Most of their refined sugar is exported via the Burnett River which is located on the eastern end of Bundaberg.

As we conclude, they are also famous for their exportation of Bundaberg Rum which is made from molasses and is a by-product of the sugarcane. In addition, they have also become the home of Craft Brewery Bargara Brewing Company and Bundaberg Brewed Drinks. Bundaberg also has a commercial vegetable and fruit production industry which produces Macadamia nuts, zucchini, watermelon, tomato, avocado, sweet potato, sweet corn, stone fruit, snow peas, rockmelon, pumpkin, potato, passionfruit, mango, lychee, honeydew melon, custard apple, cucumber, citrus, chilli, capsicum, button squash, beans, banana and a fruit known as egg fruit.
